CC Help: Bracketing

Bracketing allows you to have multiple shots taken whenever the script does a shutter release, that is to say either via the Shutter Release button or because of a time lapse.

In P, S and A modes the bracketing is done by adjusting the exposure compensation value.

In manual mode the shutter speed will be adjusted. This is because most people doing bracketing are doing so for HDR and in such cases you do not want the DOF to change between shots.

Fractional values for the number of stops such as 0.3 are permitted but not fully tested. Whole numbers of stops should always work.

    Nikon D60 does not have brackting.
    Will DIYPhotobits now let me do bracketing on my D60?

    Camera and computer Info:
    * 5.1 dev on Windows 7
    * Nikon d40 in Manual mode
    * Shutter speed = 1/15 sec
    * Bracketing = yes, shots = 3, stops = 1

    The program takes four shots all at 1/15.

    I tried it with different numbers of shots and stops. Again, the program fails to vary the sutter speed (all shots at 1/15).

    Is this a known bug on Windows 7? If not, what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks. I appreciate your effort in developing this program.

    I repeated the above experiment on Windows XP Service Pack 2. The program works as expected (it changes the shutter speed). So if the camera shutter is at 1/15 and I specify shots=4, stops=2, the program takes 5 shots: one at 1/15, two faster, and two slower. Specifically: 1/1, 1/4, 1/15, 1/60, and 1/250.

    Thanks for this script, you’re making some really great functionality available at unbeatable prices. 🙂 I believe I’m experiencing the same issue as John. Running version 5.2 of the script on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium, 4GB of RAM, HP laptop attached to Nikon D40. The script recognizes the D40 just fine, and I can control all the settings in manual mode, release the shutter and download images just fine. However, the bracketing function takes the correct number of shots, but all at the same exposure setting. Tried M and A modes, same result. Thanks for any attention you can bring to this issue, and thanks again for your efforts with the script.

    I experience exactly the same with the bracketing function as John, with a D40 as well and all other settings working just perfect.
    If there’s any way you could improve this it would be of great help, but no matter what this is in my opninion a great script.

    I am planning to do some HDR Landscape Portraits at night. Therefore I need to set the camera to “bulb” and to control the exposure time in pressing the shutter button for some seconds.

    From your development experience, is it possible to set the exposure time to “bulb” and to simulate the pressed shuter button by code? As I saw in your script you send a “wiaCommandTakePicture”. Is there also someting like “wiaShutterButtonDown” and “wiaShutterButtonUp”?

    I’ve tried bracketing with 3 shots (1+2) using D300 with the same results. Set the camera to bracketing 7 shots, hit the select camera button and then used the computer still set to 3 for bracketing. THe system produced 3 shots at different exposures. So it would appear that there is partial control but not complete. hope this helps Does this program support Liveview? many thanks.

    A further comment. If you set the camera to 7 shots for bracketing and the computer to 3 (2+1) then the remaining 4 shots get carried over to the next one and a bit set of 3.So the best way is to set the bracketing on the cmaera to the same as the computer.

    I’m using a D90 with a manual lens. Exposure compensation does not work on negative values; ie if EV is at 0 and I set +2 it will show. If I then set -2, nothing will happen. However if I set 0, it will return to that value but nothing below.

    I set the bracketing on the camera. My aim is to shoot a set of three, then shift the EV value and expose another set of 3.

    On my Nikon D3100, windows XP, putting on A, S or P modes, the bracketing happens adjusting the shutter speed. On manual mode bracketing does not work.

    Great program though!

    And just to add to the above comment, the most stops it goes is 5.
